Education that Works

Every child – every American – should have the opportunity to fully develop their individual potential through education, regardless of where they happen to be born, who their parents are, or how much money they have. This will make our nation more just, more prosperous, and more free.

I will support legislation to:

  • Advance the ideas expressed in Senator Bernie Sanders’ College for All Act, which would eliminate tuition and fees at public colleges and universities, lower student loan rates, allow for the refinancing of existing student loans, simplify the financial aid application process, and expand the federal work-study program.
  • Ensure that struggling primary and secondary schools have the resources they need to lower class sizes, hire and retain professional teachers, serve special needs students, and provide vital opportunities like Pre-K and early college programs.
  • Support workers whose jobs are lost to outsourcing or automation with transition assistance, so that they and their families do not fall into poverty while they are training to enter a new field.

We must open the doors of opportunity. But we must also equip our people to walk through those doors.

– President Lyndon B. Johnson
